Following the success of ED ELLI A ME performance at the Old University Library of Fiolstræde in 2021, centred on Dante’s Inferno, , Det Flyvende Teater and DOO performing arts group will continue the journey through The Divine Comedy with PURGATORY – The 7 Deadly Sins at Brønshøj Water Tower as part of Kulturnatten 2024. This immersive performance, combining dance, opera, and theatre, features a cast of 30 artists and is realised in collaboration with CISPA – Copenhagen International School of Performing Arts and various institutions, including Italian Cultural Institute of Copenhagen, Brønshøj Vandtårn, Brønshøj-Husum Lokaludvalg, Københavns Kommune, Konsul George Jorck og Hustru Emma Jorck’s Fond, Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies (University of Copenhagen) and Società Dante Alighieri Copenhagen.
From the prison of knowledge to a prison of “water and concrete”, the audience will now face the Seven Deadly Sins and engage directly with the inmates. It is visitation day for guests and visitors. Dante, still homeless and wandering in Copenhagen, will find his way to Brønshøj Water Tower. Virgil, the prison chief guard, will guide the audience through the seven terraces (Pride · Envy · Anger · Sloth · Greed · Gluttony · Lust) and allow them to visit the inmates up close. The final suspense: will Dante finally reach Beatrice, the prison director? And which door will be opened to the poor man: that of damnation or that of salvation?
